Alibaugh a coastal town –situated in the lap of nature, famous for its sandy beaches, fresh air and clean waters makes it a great jaunt for the city dwellers of Mumbai due to its propinquity to the Mumbai city, which is just 35 Kms away.
In geographical terms, Alibaugh falls at the southern tip of Mumbai, on the narrow strip of Arabian Sea. Sarkhel Kanhoji Angre, who was the naval chief during Shivaji’s reign, discovered this beautiful place in the 17th century. Earlier, this place could be reached only by a boat from Dharamtar, Mankule and Revas but with influx of roadways this part of the state has become well connected.
Kolaba Fort, which can be visited only during low tides, makes this place the best part of Alibaug.
The Tower of St. Barbara, Magnetic Observatory, Kanhoji Angre Samadhi, Vikram Vinayak Temple and a number of small churches are the other attractions of this town.
