The Tibetan plateau is to the east of Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir to the north, and the Punjab to the west. After Independence, in 1948, 30 princely states united to form Himachal Pradesh. Finally, in 1971, Himachal Pradesh was made a full-fledged state.
The hot season in Himachal Pradesh is between March and June. The rainy season is from July to September and the cold season from October to February.
Snowfall is from December to March.
Tribals called Dasas inhabited the region. Later, Aryans, the Mauryan empire, the Kaushans, the Guptas and Kanuaj ruled the region. In the 19th century, Ranjit Singh ruled the region. Then the British defeated Gorkhas and entered into treaties with some Rajas and annexed the other kingdoms.
